Volunteers are carefully chosen and trained to act as a neighbor and friend to families who request their services. These services include:

Who can volunteer?

What type of training will I receive?

All volunteers must complete our initial six (6) hour training course. If you are interested in expanding your volunteer efforts to include direct care to patients in their homes, in the nursing home environment or at the Bowers Hospice House, (additional training required).

It is also important to note that all volunteers must undergo background screenings and drug tests, and are subject to HIPAA compliance and a Code of Ethics.

2026 New Volunteer Training Dates

All classes are conducted in the main conference room in the Wickham Administration Building located at 456 Cranberry Drive in Beckley, WV. The Wickham Administration Building is the second building on the Hospice Campus located above the Bowers Hospice House.

Training days in 2026 are held the first Tuesday of most months from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Lunch will be provided.
